8-9-10 April 2016 workshop in Amsterdam with a great pranayama master!

with Sri Sudhir Tiwari

A weekend of yoga, ayurveda and pranayama in its therapeutic format, according to the tradition of the Kaivalyadham Yoga Institute of Lonavala, India. This 3-days workshop will also include pranic pulse taking, personal pranayama practice regimen and an optional individual ayurvedic consultation with ayurvedic pulse taking.

Yoga is basically an experiential science and is explained in tradition by three terms: prayoga (practice), samprayoga (effect of the practice) and samprasad (impact of the practice on one’s personality) and the underlying principle behind is experience.

In this workshop we will immerse ourselves into yogic practice of asanas, pranayama, chanting and meditation techniques using traditional methods and guidelines.

At the same time we will discuss the principles of yogic therapy from modern scientific perspective that can be applied to one’s day-to-day living. In particular we will try to understand kriyas, asanas and pranayama. No study in yoga therapy would be complete without understanding the foundation of ayurveda, yoga’s sister science, and application of ayurvedic principles to yoga in general but pranayama in particular. We will study selected sutras (aphorisms) from ‘Carak Saram’, an ayurvedic text written for yoga practitioners.

Pranayamic/pranic pulse will be taken prior to the morning pranayama practice or at the end of each day. At the end of the workshop, based on their pulse sheet, all participants will be recommended an individual pranayama practice regimen. For participants who were recommended a practice at previous workshops with Sudhir or O.P. Tiwari, their progress will be checked and if needed the practice will be modified to suit the level of progress.

Personal ayurvedic consultation with Sudhir (optional) :

Each participants will have the optional possibility to have a personal ayurvedic consultation with Sudhir. At the time of consultations the ayurvedic pulse will be taken as well as ayurvedic and western herbs/remedies will be suggested, based on ayurvedic principles and on queries by the participants as well as appropriate diet references. The consultations will address health and lifestyle issues and will last for approx. 20 minutes. The dates/times for the appointments will be arranged on arrival on the first day. The cost for the personal ayurvedic consultation is a so called love offer (meaning donation – suggested donation of 15-20 euros per consultation). A donation box will be available at the studio.

Sri Sudhir Tiwari is the eldest son of our beloved and highly respected teacher Sri O.P. Tiwari. Sudhir was brought up at Kaivalyadham Yoga Institute, in Lonavala, India, amidst rich traditional yogic heritage of Swami Madhavdasji Maharaj, Swami Kuvalyanandaji and Swami Digambarji.

Swami Digambarji initiated Sudhir in 1981 and accepted him as a disciple. Sudhir received his primary and advanced yogic and ayurvedic training from Swami Digambarji which included the study of traditional texts, mantra yoga, fire ceremony, pranayama and various aspects of adhyatm (spiritual) yoga. Sudhir also learned pranayama and hathapradipika from his father.

Since early 2012, at his father’s request, Sudhir has traveled around the world conducting workshops in the theory and practice of yoga (asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting) and ayurveda, and spreading humbly the fundamentals of undiluted yoga. His mantra is: Breathe Positive, Breathe Yoga. Sudhir now lives in Toronto, Canada, with his wife and two children.

When you meet Sudhir, you will know he has lived and breathed yoga his whole life. He is a rare example of a humble, yet energetic and enthusiastic teacher with a mastery and knowledge of yoga you wont encounter very often. In his workshops you will explore the yoga and ayurveda tradition but also the scientific reasoning behind why we do the yogic practices.
